Design Lab

Our work, clearly labelled

Everything here carries a label, so you always know what you're looking at: two live websites we can show with permission, and three concept projects for fictional local businesses, each with a brief, desktop and phone designs, and the decisions behind them.

Labels

Three kinds of work, never mixed up

A project only appears once its label can be stated accurately.

  • Fictional business · not a client · not live

    Fictional concept

A business we invented, designed as we would for a real client: a written brief, full desktop and phone designs, and the decisions behind them. Names, phone numbers and prices are made up.

  • Related business

    Related business

A real website for a business connected to us. Tap "Why this label?" on the entry to see who owns the business and exactly what was done, and when. It is never presented as client work.

Client project 1 of 2 · Building · custom home builder, Doreen and the Melbourne region

Blessing Homes

A rebuild for a registered custom home builder: a site that loads quickly on a phone, shows the completed homes properly, and turns a first look into a first conversation.

What the website needed to do

The previous website was slow and did not show the builder's completed homes properly. The new site needed to put the homes first, answer the questions a family asks before calling a builder, and make it easy to start a project from a phone.

When

Built in October 2026; live from 1 November 2026.

Who did the work

  • Traffic Social Media: Planning, design, writing and build

Palette and type

  • Burgundy
    #7A2E3B
  • Warm white
    #FBFAF8
  • Ink
    #2A1F22
  • Soft brown
    #574A4E

A light geometric sans for headings over a quiet, open sans for body text.

What was done

  • Rebuilt the site around the completed homes: a homes gallery and a page per home, showing each one as built with the facts that can be verified.
  • Wrote and structured the service pages (custom new homes, knockdown and rebuild, townhouses and duplexes, design and build) and the stage-by-stage explanation of how a home comes together.
  • Put the builder's registration, insurance and warranty position in plain words on the pages where people look for them.
  • Designed a single Start-your-project form that asks for the block, the type of project and where the family is at, so the first conversation starts with the right facts.
  • Kept the phone number and enquiry button one tap away on every screen.

Design decisions

  1. Homes before words: the first thing on the page is a completed residence, named, and the homes gallery is one tap from anywhere.
  2. Facts over adjectives: each home page shows what was built; the registration and HIA numbers are on the page, not behind a link.
  3. One burgundy, used sparingly: the accent carries the call to action and nothing else, so the photography stays in charge.
  4. A phone-first header: logo, call icon and menu, with the project form reachable in one tap.
  5. The six construction stages written for a first-time builder, so the process is understood before the first meeting.

Results

No results are claimed. We'll add them once there's enough data to report fairly.

What the website needed to do

Replace an ageing WordPress site with one that ranks better in local search, brings in enquiries from participants and families, and makes referrals easy for support coordinators and hospital discharge teams, within the NDIS's strict rules on claims and privacy.

When

Work began 28 May 2026; live from 30 September 2026. This was before Traffic Social Media was formally established.

Who did the work

  • Vivek Mahajan: Planning, design, writing and build, using AI-assisted development tools

Palette and type

  • Green
    #2C4325
  • Beige
    #E8E2D8
  • Sage
    #58764F
  • Terracotta (accents)
    #C46B2E

Fraunces for headings, Familjen Grotesk for body text.

What was done

  • Planned a new structure around three audiences (participants and families, support coordinators, and hospital teams), each with its own pathway from the homepage.
  • Designed and built about 40 pages: ten service pages, a supported-living vacancy hub with a page per home, a referrer page, guides, and Easy Read downloads.
  • Built three free calculators (SIL roster of care, respite cost and plan budget) that run in the browser and store nothing.
  • Moved every old WordPress address to its new page with a single permanent redirect, and retired removed posts cleanly.
  • Set up a claims register so every registration statement, timeframe and hospital reference is signed off, and analytics set up to run only on the live site, with no personal details in tracked events.
  • Tested accessibility and performance before launch, and checked the live site across eight device sizes afterwards.

Design decisions

  1. Pathways before services: the homepage opens with "Find the right pathway", so families, referrers and hospital teams each reach their page in one click.
  2. Vacancies first: the supported-living hub shows current homes before the explanation, and says a vacancy does not guarantee a placement.
  3. Calculators that store nothing: no names, no account and nothing saved, to suit sensitive NDIS information.
  4. Claims written to the rules: hedged timeframes, factual hospital references only, and exact registration wording, held in one register.
  5. Easy Read and printable formats for key information.

Results

No results are claimed. We'll add them once there's enough data to report fairly.
